Famed Environmental Activist Erin Brockovich Tours Florida's Water Crisis

Empowering Communities to Drive Change

SATELLITE BEACH, FL. Erin Brockovich and Bob Bowcock, well-known figures in environmental activism and water expertise, visited various communities in Florida struggling with water quality problems. They conducted tours in southeastern Fort Pierce, White City, Indian River Drive, Satellite Beach, and St. Lucie County. They guided these communities on effective advocacy for clean water during their visit.

During water testing, groundwater, reclaimed water, and sewage in Brevard County contained harmful chemicals called PFOA and PFOS. These chemicals were detected at high concentrations on Patrick Air Force Base, raising concerns among nearby communities like South Patrick Shores, where evidence of military artifacts burning has been found in yards.

The presence of over 800 cancer cases and positive water test results has caused anxiety among Brevard County residents regarding PFAS contamination resulting from three active installations. To address these concerns, community members were allowed to seek answers and gain knowledge from experts, including activist Erin Brockovich, who dedicated six hours to discussing methods for minimizing exposure to these chemicals and advocating for stricter legislation to safeguard families.

In St. Lucie, the occurrence of glioblastoma, an extremely fatal and aggressive type of brain cancer, is remarkably elevated. Brockovich held private meetings with the families affected by this condition and engaged in conversations. She also addressed the problem of toxic blue-green algae blooms caused by the release of water from Lake Okeechobee, impacting both the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee Rivers.

Erin Brockovich and Bob Bowcock inspire and mentor the Florida communities as they work towards ensuring a healthy and safe environment.
